The Boswell Brief: Ringing in the 112th Congress

Statement

Date: Jan. 5, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Dear Fellow Iowan,

Today marks the start of the 112th Congress and as your Congressman, I am starting the new year and the new Congress with the resolution to continue working to create jobs, revive our economy, and rebuild America's middle class.

As a senior Member of the House Agriculture Committee, I will create jobs by pushing for further investment in Iowa's renewable energy industry, and for rural development projects that bring broadband and small business support to Iowa's many farm communities. Leading up to the 2012 Farm Bill, I will continue my dialogue with farmers and producers on what programs they need the most, and fight for a strong safety net to keep Iowa's agriculture operations in-business and growing.

On the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I will fight to fund projects that bring jobs to Iowa while keeping the state's roads and infrastructure up-to-date and safe. Improving our nation's highways and bridges is work that must be done anyway and I support putting Iowans to work today to complete these important projects.

This year, I will push for legislation that returns the focus of our economy back to building American goods with American hands. We must prioritize U.S. companies that manufacture within our borders and remove the tax incentives and loopholes that encourage the shipping of American jobs overseas. I will support legislation that puts Iowa's workers and American jobs ahead of foreign products and imports in order to keep our economy growing.

As we open the 112th Congress, I will actively work with my colleagues in the House to bring forward and pass legislation that will build upon the positive progress we have made to rebuild the economy.

I look forward to serving the people of Iowa's 3rd Congressional District, and as always, please feel to contact me in Washington D.C. at 202-225-3806 or in Des Moines at 515-282-1909.

Sincerely,

Leonard L. Boswell
Member of Congress
